Our History
For more than sixty years the gospel has been preached in the La Sierra neighborhood of Riverside. Here is how the Lord has led our church — and what he is doing among us now.
Founded in 1965, La Sierra Baptist Church has served the La Sierra neighborhood of Riverside for over 60 years. Over these many years the Lord has been faithful to keep the Word of God and the Gospel central to who we are.
In 2025, La Sierra reached out to Grace Church of Orange for help, and Grace Orange began regularly sending men to preach and serve at La Sierra. In January 2026 the two churches formally partnered together for the purpose of revitalizing La Sierra Baptist, trusting the Lord to work again to build up this congregation in Gospel health.
In the spring of 2026, Grace Church of Rancho Cucamonga came alongside this revitalization effort, sending Michael Sciarra to pastor the church. A group of members from Grace Orange and Grace Rancho have been sent to join the church and minister faithfully.
At this stage in the life of our church we are led by a transitional elder/pastor team from Grace Orange — Alan Weisenberger and Bryan Bush — who are actively leading and shepherding the church alongside Michael Sciarra. Our hope and prayer is that in the coming years the Lord will raise up our own qualified team of pastors and elders, and bring us to a place of financial self-sustainability, so that the light of the Gospel continues to shine forth from La Sierra Baptist for years to come.
